WEDNESDAY, 02 JULY 2008:
Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will on Monday, 07 July 2008 launch the Cleaner Fires Campaign, “Basa Njengo Magogo” in Sebokeng.
Communities using coal as a primary source of energy who live in the vicinity of National Priority Areas which emit hazardous gases, particularly the Vaal Triangle Air-shed Priority Area, will acquire the new cleaner fire-making methodology called Basa Njengo Magogo which will drastically reduce coal-induced carbon monoxide.
Deputy Minister Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will deliver a keynote address to officially launch the national campaign in the Vaal Triangle Air-shed Priority Area.
This is a joint multi-stakeholder campaign featuring participants such as Department of Minerals and Energy, Department of Health, Sasol, Eskom, Anglo Coal, City of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni Municipality, Sedibeng District Municipality and the Central Energy Fund. Representatives of partner organizations are expected to attend.
